Lauren’s Apprenticeship Story
I went to school in Kidderminster at King Charles I School & Sixth Form, this is where I decided to stay on to complete my A Levels. I chose to do A Levels in English Language and Literature, Economics, ICT and Sociology. After my first months I found that Sociology wasn’t for me so I dropped the subject and continued with the others. During sixth form our teachers wanted us to start the university application process. We also had meetings with our careers adviser to explore other pathways. After a meeting with my careers adviser I decided to see what apprenticeships were about and maybe apply to some training providers.

Success for Green Lighting Ltd as they are recognised as a Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer
Green Lighting Ltd. has been recognised, for the second year running, in the prestigious Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer List, which is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service and recognises excellence in businesses that employ apprentices.
The list was announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards, which took place on 20 January 2017 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
After a tough selection process the most exceptional apprenticeship employers from all of The National Apprenticeship Awards Employer categories went forward to feature in the list, which showcases the breadth of employers who now offer apprenticeships.
A large proportion of the Green Lighting workforce is made up of apprentices as they are hugely important to our organisation and we are delighted that everyone’s hard work and dedication has been recognised in this way.
Ryan Shemwell, former Worcestershire Apprentice of the Year 2015, said “As a former apprentice at Green Lighting, I was thrilled to hear that my employer has been recognised in the Top 100 List, announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards finals in London on the 20th January 2017.
I have gained many qualifications at Green Lighting alongside several Apprenticeship Awards. These have helped me advance my career within the company going from a Warehouse Operative to the UK Operations Manager!
I would encourage more employers to find out more about employing apprentices and the benefits they can bring. My employer has definitely seen the rewards of employing apprentices and I wouldn’t have the skills or experience I have today without my apprenticeship.”
Anthony Ottway, Managing Director, said “We have learnt that developing the potential in each individual and encouraging them to be proud of their company and want to succeed is paramount to our business success.”
Sue Husband, Director of the National Apprenticeship Service commented on Green Lighting Ltd. being named a Centrica Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer.
“The Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer List 2016 demonstrates clearly the impact Apprentices can have on an organisation. Apprentice employers are creating opportunities for individuals to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed, up to degree level, while working and earning.
These Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers are making a difference to the lives of their apprentices by investing in their future. In return, apprentices are helping employers to develop a skilled, qualified workforce to build a stronger economy.
I hope the success of these Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers will mean more businesses across England aspire to follow their example and to find out for themselves how apprenticeships help to grow a skilled and highly qualified workforce.”
